High-resolution headlamps integrated with projection technologies can generate dynamic pixel beams to realize functionalities like glare avoidance, on-road projection to improve the traffic experience. For better communication between drivers and other road participants not only during the night but also in the daytime, chromatic on-road projection is put forward. Twisted nematic LCoS with RGB laser diodes as light sources provide a proper solution to realize both illumination and colored projection.
LCoS devices enable the light and shade contrast by adjusting and reflecting the linearly polarized input light, which fits the emission property of laser diodes well. Its ascendant aperture ratio and reflectivity are also compatible for high-brightness applications. Thus using LCoS combined with laser light to implement a high-resolution headlamp with improved lighting functions is becoming.
In this paper a system concept integrating a twisted nematic LCoS with RGB laser diodes for a high-resolution projection system will be presented. A demonstrator according to this concept will be constructed and performances regarding to the headlamp requirements will be investigated.
