In endoprosthetics, standardized short shaft prostheses cannot optimally fulfil the anatomical and osteological requirements for durability, functionality and freedom from complications. This article provides the specifications for a Computer-aided Engineering Environment for the synthesis of a patient-specific short shaft endoprosthesis of the hip, which can maximise the degree to which these requirements are met by the implant. To this end, the osteological and anatomical factors influencing the product life cycle of a short-shaft endoprosthesis are identified in the course of a design research methology and solution methods are designed to meet the requirements. Following the design process of the short shaft endoprosthesis, the Effect-Engineering in prosthetics, with the help of additive manufacturing, is presented, which increases the quality of life of the operated patients through the functional integration of various physical effects and optimisation strategies.
