The aim of this study was to design maintenance and development measures for a five-hectare complex of various nutrient-poor, soil-acidic grassland habitats on the outskirts of Hannover. For this purpose, vegetation structure, biotope types as well as FFH habitat types, vascular plants and grasshoppers were systematically recorded. The wet areas are particularly significant for plant species conservation, characterized by annual dwarf rush pioneer vegetation. The diversity of vegetation structures and biotope types has led to the development of a species-rich grasshopper fauna. Endangered species occur throughout the whole area. The dry and short-grassed areas are especially valuable due to the increased occurrence of highly endangered xerothermophilic species (Stenobothrus stigmaticus, Oedipoda caerulescens, Omocestus haemorrhoidalis). For these dry areas, the current management in the form of extensive stand grazing should be continued. The wetter areas should undergo two mob grazing periods with a long grazing pause between.
