In dieser Arbeit werden zwei verschiedene experimentelle Ansätze untersucht, die stochastischen Fluktuationen (Schrotrauschen) zwischen den Einzelelektronen-Tunnelereignissen in einem Quantenpunkt zu kontrollieren. Die untersuchte Quantenpunktstruktur basiert auf einem zweidimensionalen Elektronengas in einer AlGaAs/GaAs Heterostruktur. Zur zeitlichen Erfassung der Tunnelereignisse kommt ein Quantenpunktkontakt als sensitiver Ladungsdetektor zum Einsatz. Die Fluktuationen werden anhand der Zählstatistik sowie den Verteilungen der Besetzungszeiten und Rückkehrzeiten charakterisiert. Der erste Ansatz (open-loop control) besteht darin, den Einzelelektronen-Tunnelprozess mit einem externen periodischen Antrieb zu synchronisieren. Es wird gezeigt, dass die Synchronisation ein Optimum sowohl als Funktion der externen Antriebsfrequenz als auch des intrinsischen Schrotrausch-Levels durchläuft. Die Existenz des Optimums demonstriert das Auftreten einer Quanten-Stochastischen-Resonanz, da das Schrotrauschen eine intrinsische Eigenschaft des quantenmechanische Tunnelprozesses an sich ist. Im zweite Ansatz (closed-loop control) wird der Einzelelektronen-Tunnelprozess über einen Regelkreises stabilisiert. Dieser basiert auf der Implementierung einer Rück\-kopplung zwischen den zeitlichen Fluktuationen und der Tunnelrate des Quantenpunktes. Durch die Regelung kommt es zum vollständigen Einfrieren der Zählstatistik. Die optimale Rückkopplungsstärke wird in Abhängigkeit der Regelparameter untersucht. Es zeigt sich, je feiner die zeitlichen Fluktuationen vermessen und korrigiert werden, umso effektiver unterdrückt die Regelung das Schrotrauschen.
The present thesis investigates two different experimental approaches to control the stochastic fluctuations (shot noise) between the single-electron tunneling events in a quantum dot. The studied quantum dot structure is formed in a two-dimensional electron gas, based on a AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructure. To resolve the tunneling events temporally, a quantum point contact is utilized as a sensitive charge detector. The fluctuations are characterized by the counting statistics as well as the residence and return time distributions. The first approach (open-loop control) is based on the synchronization of the single-electron tunneling process with an external periodic drive. It is shown that the synchronization runs through an optimum, no matter whether the external driving frequency or the intrinsic shot noise level were tuned. The existence of the optimum indicates the occurrence of quantum stochastic resonance, since shot noise is an intrinsic property of the quantum mechanical tunneling process itself. The second approach (closed-loop control) aims to stabilize the tunneling process by a feedback loop. The implementation is based on a feedback between the temporal fluctuations and the tunneling rate of the quantum dot. The feedback causes freezing of the counting statistics. The optimal feedback strength is examined as a function of the control parameters. It turns out that the more accurate the temporal fluctuations are measured and corrected, the more effectively the shot noise is suppressed.
